Christmas Star - Cures and Meaning
Share
The Christmas Star plant, or Poinsettia, has an interesting and fascinating history. This plant is native to Mexico and was first discovered in the seventeenth century by the physician and botanist João de Deus.
The plant is named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first American ambassador to Mexico, who brought it to the United States in 1828. Its beauty and elegance won the hearts of many Americans, and the plant became a popular Christmas tradition.
According to a Mexican legend, this poinsettia plant has as its protagonist a little girl from a poor family, who wanted to bring a gift to the Christmas Mass in the church of her city. Not having the means to do so, disconsolate she decided to wander around the city in search of something. After vain searches, an angel suggested she collect some weeds near the church and bring them as a gift. The little girl, fearing being mocked by the other children, ran to the church so as not to be seen. When the little girl put down the weeds, something happened that amazed everyone present, the bunch of branches transformed into a beautiful plant with red leaves and golden berries. From that day, this magical plant spread throughout Mexico and was called "Fiore de Noce Buena" which means the Flower of the Holy Night, better known as the Christmas Star.
Today, the poinsettia is one of the most popular plants during the Christmas holidays. It is often used to decorate homes, churches and offices. Its beauty and charm have conquered the entire world, but its history and meaning always remain linked to the Christmas holidays.
